Lisa's Story

Hi! I'm Lisa and thank you for visiting My Ellie Books. I am the author and publisher of NOAH'S TRUCKS. My journey as an author started when my son Noah was born. Play has always been a big part of our day and any opportunity we get to play together, I get right into it! You can probably take a good guess what his favourite toys are.....TRUCKS! His imagination and excitement when playing with his trucks is so fascinating to me. 

Along with play experiences, reading became a part of our daily routine while Noah was a newborn. Everyday my husband and I made it a priority to flip through books with him. He not only started following as we read along, but he was also able to understand how to hold a book, turn pages, repeat words, ask questions and make predictions about the stories. It makes me so proud as a parent to see the excitement he continues to have for books. 

As an Early Childhood Educator and an Ontario Certified Teacher, I have had the opportunity to teach ages and levels from infants to grade 5. I am passionate about fostering a love for reading in young children. I believe that early literacy helps in increasing a child’s vocabulary, comprehension and language skills. It is really important to introduce fun books to children while having meaningful conversations that keep them engaged and encourage curiosity. This plays a critical role in preparing them for school and beyond. 

My teaching experience combined with Noah's love for books and trucks sparked the idea to write my very first book, NOAH'S TRUCKS. A beautiful board book with colourful illustrations using basic language, repetition and sight words that is ideal for infants, toddlers, preschoolers and even school agers.

Once I wrote my first draft and researched some freelance illustrators, I thought it was a good time to tell my husband what I had been up to, since he had no idea. Seeing the excitement on his face and hearing him cheer me on, really gave me the motivation to keep chasing this wild dream. Seeing what I had envisioned in my mind actually come to life in the form of a book is truly rewarding. 

I am very excited for this next chapter of my life!
